The Russian Spectacular
The Russians are invading using musical instruments as their weapons of peace. Dancers, singers and a world renowned military band will perform in a series of Russian Spectacular concerts. These unique events will help forge new links and re-establish existing friendships between Belarus and the area.
The Band - who are based in Belarus - includes some of the best performers Russia has to offer. As one of the finest military orchestras in the world, they successfully combine traditional Russian folk music with a wide range of modern big band favourites and international music. Their extensive repertoire makes them one of the most sought after groups of musicians in the world today, as they are popular with audiences both young and old.
The Band are particularly well known as ambassadors for Belarus and the Russian Federation but rarely have the chance to visit the UK.
The world renowned White Russian Central Band from Belarus will be joined by the guest vocalists and other soloists from the world famous Bolshoi and dancers from the Belarussian National Folk Dance Academy in national dress for a Russian Spectacular. Culminating in a spectacular grand finale featuring “The Last Night of the Russian Proms”, the event has something for everyone both young and old.
History of the Central Band
The Belarussian Central Band of the Ministry of the Interior was formed as a Regimental Band and one of the major military units of the People’s Commissariat of Internal Affairs of the USSR in the 1930s.
Since its formation, the Band has developed into one of the leading military ensembles in the former Soviet Union and professional musicians flocked to join this prestigious unit which won many competitions for military bands in the USSR.
In 1995 the Band was re-designated by order of the President as the Belarussian Central Band of the Ministry of Interior and its first concert was on 4th March 1995.
The Band has an extensive repertoire including the works of Belarussian composers. The Band also performs a wide range of classical pieces from composers such as Bach, Vivaldi, Tchaikowsky and Shostakovich, to name but a few, and a varied selection of big band and jazz pieces. The Band also regularly performs with many guest soloists from leading orchestral groups and other world famous musical organisations, such as The Bolshoi.
In recent years the Band has performed at many Music Festivals in Germany, France, Spain, Italy and all over the former Soviet Union. The band's last visit to the UK was in 2012 and they are particularly looking forward to returning for this special series of concerts and are hoping to gain new friendships throughout the UK as they act as ambassadors for the Republic of Belarus.
